And Let Parents Inside of School Buildings

Please call the office of Mayor Adams and let him know that it is time to end Covid injection requirements for everybody and end the pointless New York City Covid state of emergency.

Politico is reporting that New York City Mayor Eric Adams will shortly end his state of emergency order requiring all people employed in the private sector in New York City to get Covid injections, confirming rumors that have been swirling recently. Rules requiring public school children to get the shot to participate in extracurricular activities and sports are also supposed to be scrapped according to reporter Joe Anuta. This is welcome news and long overdue. But reports are that Adams intends to keep the shot requirement for New York City employees, and yesterday Adams moved forward with firing another 850 school employees who had applied for religious exemptions but were denied by the City.

Why the double standard? Especially when the Covid regime is collapsing? On Sunday in a 60 Minutes interview President Biden declared, “the pandemic is over.” Last week un-elected New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared an end to the Covid State of Emergency. If the pandemic is over, and there is no state of emergency in the state that includes New York City, and private sector employees do not need shots,  what possible reasons could Adams use to argue that we need to keep his draconian measures only for public employees?

Not even the CDC thinks their previously essential draconian rules serve any public health interest. The CDC finally acknowledged in their latest Covid guidance that the injection does not stop transmission, and that the vast majority of Americans, vaxxed and un-vaxxed, have already had and recovered from Covid, which they finally had to admit confers protection from future infection. All but the most belligerently science adverse know that Covid is a negligible threat to children and certainly less of a threat than the injection, which is why more and more countries are prohibiting giving the shot to children. 

So, again, why is Adams clinging to his order that all New York City employees get the shot when no one else has to?  Money. 

New York City has serious financial troubles. A reported $10 billion shortfall is looming. Firing city employees ostensibly for not getting the shot is the equivalent of a layoff without having to admit it is a layoff, and there is no push-back from the unions. Some unions leaders like Michael Mulgrew and Randi Weingarten of the American Federation of Teachers applaud the firings.  Not only does the city save money, but they also get rid of employees who both the mayor and union leaders see as political enemies. 

Money also explains why Adams lifted the mandate for private sector employees. Adams’s biggest challenge is to get people commuting back into Manhattan office buildings. People not in the city don’t spend money in the city. And if things keep on going the way they are, there will be tens of millions of square feet of office space that nobody wants. That will lead to plummeting commercial real estate values and similarly plunging city revenues. The last thing Adams needs are any barriers to getting people into Manhattan, like Covid shot mandates.
