New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) – the largest Teachers Union in New York – has just reaffirmed their opposition to vaccine mandates for educators.
TEACHERS FOR CHOICE greatly thanks NYSUT President Andy Pallotta for sticking to his word. We reported back in June that Pallotta and NYSUT were opposed to any vaccine mandate for educators.
Thank you very much Mr. Pallotta, we greatly appreciate this!
In terms of COVID testing Pallotta and NYSUT are very supportive of in-school COVID testing. Up until today, NYSUT has always stated testing should be voluntary. It is unclear is they still hold that position, but we hope they do.

NYSUT statement on COVID-19 vaccinations for K-12 school staff (issued 8-2-21)
“We have advocated since the beginning of the year that any educator who wants a vaccine should have easy access to one. We would support local efforts to encourage more vaccinations, such as through programs that require that those who are not vaccinated get tested on a regular basis. But it’s critical that districts come up with plans to make testing available on-site and at no cost. What we have not supported is a vaccine mandate.” (emphasis added)
