5,000 peaceful protesters rallied at the New York Capitol in Albany on January 5th to say no to all covid and vaccine mandates. The 2022 legislative session in Albany is loaded with bills attempting to codify multiple covid and vaccine mandates into state law.
Driving to the protest road conditions were treacherous where black ice, rain and sleet caused multiple accidents including one 6 car pile up. Hundreds of protesters headed to Albany turned back due to the horrible road conditions. Even many confirmed speakers turned back when trapped in horrible traffic and icing roads, including Kevin Jenkins.
Despite these major obstacles the turnout was still enormous! 5000 people NEVER show up in Albany over any issue, ever. The point was made loud and clear, New York is completely against codifying covid mandates into law.
Children’s Health Defense President Mary Holland gave an outstanding speech where she called dozens of children to stand with her as she spoke against requiring covid vaccination for children.
Assemblyman David DiPietro addressed the crowd clearly impressed by the size of the crowd he was addressing. DiPietro is the sponsor of a bill to bring back the Religious Exemption to Vaccination in New York for children to attend school.
Perhaps the highlight of the event was when New York City’s Transit & Labor Leader Tramell Thompson announced that he was fully vaccinated yet anti-mandate. Tramell took out his vaccine card and tore it up stating he is against vaccine passports. This was a very powerful message making clear this is not about vaccinated vs. unvaccinated, it’s about fundamental rights.
Watch Tramell tear up his vaccine card here:
There were many reports in the mainstream press. All of them seemed to avoid the “anti-vaxxer” misnomer but often focused on “rising covid cases.” They left out that the new Omicron variant of covid is significantly less virulent than any previous variant, and that almost all cases of covid now are equivalent to flu or the common cold. We should be celebrating that we have gotten past the worst of covid, not clinging to mandates that infringe on civil liberties. We can be safe, with common sense, and not force medical mandates on any one.
Governor Hochul is clearly quite afraid of the rising Anti-Mandate Movement throughout the entire state of New York. She is so afraid that at 7pm the night before our protest she announced her State of the State speech would be delivered entirely remotely. This had NOTHING to do with public health. If it did, she would have made the announcement days or weeks earlier. This was a way to avoid having to deal with the thousands of us there railing against her support to codify more covid mandates, including forcing covid vaccination on children to attend school.
